Explore Cape Town

Cape Town has so much to offer, from natural landmarks to coastal drives, wine farms and historic sites.
Below are a few suggestions to help you make the most of your trip.
If you’re visiting during peak season, we recommend booking tickets and experiences in advance where possible.

Table Mountain

An iconic Cape Town experience. On a clear day, the views from the top stretch across the city and along the coastline. We’re planning to arrange a walk-up, cable car down trip for anyone who’d like to join. We’ll share details closer to the time.

Lion’s Head

The Lion’s Head hike takes about 2.5 hours in total, and the breathtaking views from the top make the effort worthwhile. The best times to do this hike are at sunrise and sunset.

Robben Island

Famous for being the prison where Nelson Mandela spent 18 of his 27 years of imprisonment, Robben Island is a significant historical site. Tours start at the V&A Waterfront and need to be pre- booked online. The tour takes about 3.5 hours and is dependent on ocean conditions due to the ferry crossing.

V&A Waterfront

The V&A Waterfront is a working harbor and a bustling shopping center. It’s the perfect place for gift shopping or a bite to eat.

Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens

Take a stroll through Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens on the slopes of Table Mountain. It’s one of the world’s most acclaimed gardens and part of a UNESCO World Heritage site. There are cafés for coffee or lunch, plenty of space for a picnic, and an elevated treetop walkway called “The
Boomslang” with great views.

Constantia Wine Farms

Constantia wine farms are the closest to the city and are easy to visit from Cape Town. Many estates
offer walk-in tastings, but for weekends or lunch stops, reservations are helpful. A few of our favourites are Constantia Glen, Beau Constantia, Groot Constantia, and Steenberg.

Hop On, Hop Off Red Bus

A relaxed way to see the city’s highlights without having to plan too much. There are a few different routes, each offering a different perspective of Cape Town and its coastline.

Oranjezicht Market

A lovely way to spend a morning or an early evening. The oh RUN-yuh-zicht market brings together local food producers, coffee stalls, bakeries and small-batch makers, all set along the
waterfront. Saturday and Sunday mornings are perfect for a relaxed breakfast, while the Wednesday evening market has a festive, sunset atmosphere with live music and shared tables.
It’s a great way to ease into Cape Town’s vibe.

Bree Street

One of Cape Town’s most vibrant dining and nightlife areas. Bree Street is lined with wine bars, bakeries and restaurants, all within easy walking distance of one another.

Chapman’s Peak Drive

One of the most beautiful coastal drives in the world. The road curves along the cliffside, offering dramatic views of the Atlantic Ocean. We suggest stopping at one of the viewpoints along the way. The route connects Hout Bay to Noordhoek and is lovely any time of day.

Cape Town’s Beaches

Cape Town has some amazing beaches. They can get busy this time of year, so if you want a quieter visit, early mornings help. Parking fills up fast so an Uber is usually easier. Clifton, Llandudno, Bakoven and Noordhoek are some of our favourites.

Simon’s Town & Kalk Bay

A beautiful coastal drive if you have time. This side of the peninsula is slightly warmer and dotted with charming small towns. Boulders Beach is home to the famous penguin colony.
Kalk Bay has lovely cafés and restaurants along the water.

Boulders Beach

This charming beach is home to a thriving penguin colony.

If you’re in the area, don’t miss the chance to visit the penguins or explore the small towns along
this stretch of coastline. Simon’s Town also has a small naval base and several fishing harbours.

The drive from Simon’s Town to Kalk Bay is scenic, and you can enjoy lunch at one of the waterfront restaurants.

Cape Peninsula Day Trip

A Cape Peninsula tour would include many of the beaches and towns already mentioned, but we suggest making your way down to Cape Point if you have the time. It’s a full but very rewarding day out, with plenty to see along the way.
